An England Original: ‘Back to Back’

A new England Original is now available to watch on the official England app: Back to Back.

Charting England men’s under-21s’ triumph at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship 2025, the documentary is now available to watch for registered users of the app. 

The Young Lions, who won the tournament back in 2023, embarked on a journey to defend their title in Slovakia last year.

Back in post after stepping up to the senior team on an interim basis following the departure of Gareth Southgate, Lee Carsley led a new generation through tournament football, alongside his coaching staff including England legend Ashley Cole.

Building on the previous triumph, the squad faced new challenges, with key players now in the senior setup or unavailable, giving a new generation the chance to step up on the European stage.

With unique access inside the England set-up, the film follows Carsley as he guides the group through each stage of the competition, shaping their mindset and refining the tactics needed to face Europe’s toughest opponents – even taking on Germany, who they overcame in the final, twice.

Featuring familiar faces and rising talents including Elliot Anderson, Tino Livramento, Alex Scott, Ethan Nwaneri and Archie Gray, the team set out to honour the legacy of those who came before them while forging their own place in England’s history.

Interview-led, we start at St. George’s Park, ahead of tournament getting underway to set the stage before following each game and round of the competition, with behind-the-scenes access and match footage.
